Programs
The Friends of Olivia Foundation has four programs to assist families. Our granting committee will review applications and determine which program best suits your needs.
Emergency Travel – this program has been designed to offer short term financial relief to families whose children face unexpected life threatening illness or injuries and have been sent via air ambulance to another facility. The program is designed to deal with unexpected expenses associated with travel, accommodation etc.
Travel Grant – this program is offered to families that have scheduled appointments for their children and that qualify for the Northern Health Travel Grant according to the NHTG guidelines. We act as third party biller to these families, allowing them the access to their grant entitlements upfront.
Financial Assistance – this program is offered to families that are faced with additional living expenses incurred when traveling and staying with a child that will be in hospital or is required to stay close to the hospital for an extended period of time.
Special Requests – if an applicant has made a request for assistance that is not outlined in the Granting Program, but fits into our mandate, the request will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and a decision will be made at the Board’s discretion.
Assistance we offer to families may include:
- Gift cards to Shoppers Drug Mart, A&P, Dominion of Canada
- Phone cards
- Flights
- Personal allowance
- Living allowance
- Meal allowance
- Customized resource packages
- Personal support
An application to one of our programs does not guarantee financial assistance. It guarantees careful consideration of financial aid by our granting committee. We are committed to helping as many children and families from the District of Thunder Bay as possible with our limited funds.
